Henry L. Isakson (AMCAP President and Journal Editor), AMCAP Journal 2-1, 1976
We anticipate that the challenge of integrating our professional practice with the principles of the Gospel which we espouse will be facilitated by our membership in AMCAP. Each of us undoubtedly belongs to several professional organizations; however, this one is different. This organization is made up of believers. As counselors and psychotherapists "whose common bond is membership in and adherence to the principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" we can strengthen each other in the Gospel as well as in our professional lives.... Elder Neal Maxwell has reminded us, that "We hold our citizenship in the Kingdom and take our passports into the professional world, rather than visa versa."
Henry L. Isakson (AMCAP President and Journal Editor), AMCAP Journal 3-1, 1977
It is good to be associated with you! As a "Mormon" who is engaged in counseling as a profession, I was pretty much alone for many years. Now I gain strength and enjoyment as well as professional and spiritual growth through my contacts with you, my fellow LDS counselors. Our association is different from all the rest in that it cuts across two of the most important areas of our lives. We can and should (and do, I feel) strengthen each other in the Gospel as well as in our professional lives. Yes, it is good to be associated with you!
Richard D. Berrett (AMCAP President), AMCAP Newsletter, Summer 1980M
Our continued contact with one another is like a spring in the desert to me; it brings refreshment into the sometimes barren region of my professional life.

One of the reasons I have found my association with AMCAP so satisfying is that it is one setting where I don't feel the antagonism or divisiveness present in some other settings. My experience has been that we have a comfortable mix of professionals from all disciplines involved as officers, members, and convention presenters. There is also a balance of male and female participation that is valuable. The interaction is enjoyable and the part that each of you contribute to this is appreciated.
Beverly L. Shaw (AMCAP President,) AMCAP News, Spring 1992
I believe that all professional organizations strive to provide the best possible training and information for their members. AMCAP is unique, however, in that we not only provide high quality training and information but our focus and perspective are grounded in the theology of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There is no other professional organization that can offer you that advantage. AMCAP provides the highest standards of training and scholarship while also understanding that skills and knowledge are hollow without spiritual underpinnings.
..."We are God's hands." We work in His behalf with His children...
Alan Westover (AMCAP President,) AMCAP News, Spring 1994
[AMCAP] serves as a home for a growing number of LDS professionals. It exists explicitly for those "whose common bond is adherence to the principles and standards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in both personal life and professional practice." (AMCAP By-Laws, Article One, Section 2A) I believe most of us were drawn to AMCAP precisely because this statement of organizational identity is consistent with our deepest personal convictions.

...AMCAP exists to "promote fellowship, foster communication, and facilitate collaboration among LDS professionals in pursuits of mutual interest. (AMCAP By-Laws, Article One, Section 2C.) It is a place where people may discover colleagues residing in different communities, trained in different universities, born at different times, but addressing similar issues and professional goals from the common foundation of LDS values. Our journal, newsletters, conventions, etc. can truly diminish our sense of isolation and enhance our sense of community, acceptance, and belonging.
Wendy Ulrich (AMCAP President,) AMCAP Networker, Fall 1995
I closed my eyes. I looked around. Sure enough, I had a vision...I saw you, the members of AMCAP...I saw your mouths, your eyes, your hands, your tears. You are AMCAP. You are its "what", its "how", and its "why"...
AMCAP, above all, is a place where people come together... AMCAP must continue to be a safe haven, a shady rest stop with a big map that says, "You are here" at which we can find our bearings, find refreshement, and discuss the territory with fellow travelers...
Close your eyes and see with me what AMCAP is to be. Close your eyes and imagine where you belong in the vision. Then open your eyes, step forward, speak, think, take hold, and feel with us. AMCAP is growing again.

In so many exciting and important ways, [AMCAP] is truly reached its "maturity" and is taking its rightful place in society as a dynamic, spiritual / professional organization unparalleled anywhere else on earth. Because of the foresight, inspiration, and insight of its founders, AMCAP is also filling a much needed place in the history of viable professional service organizations. I thrill when I contemplate the burgeoning possibilities now available to this great organization to reach out and touch the lives of others for good.
Jan Scharman (AMCAP President,) AMCAP Networker, Spring 1998
We are members of a profession which in some areas is moving far away from what we know to be true and right. It is not always easy to make our spiritual and ethical values consistent with the direction some others would like it to go. One of the purposes of our association is to clarify tough issues and to gather strength from each other. Given the many challenges, it gave me great comfort and courage to hear our prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, speak directly to us as AMCAP members:
"To have you of the Church in this professional field stand together and work together, and give strength and support and encouragement, one to another, in a world where you are constantly under attack, is a remarkable and wonderful thing...Keep up the good work...May you be blessed in all of your professional service. Stay together, work together and love and respect and appreciate one another is my prayer for each of you.
Thank you for the service you render to your clients, your ward members, your community, and to each other. Thank you for doing work that our prophet can commend.
